LaAmistad English for Successful Living offers English classes to anyone whose first language is
not English and who has no language proficiency or limited proficiency in English. Classes are
taught by volunteers who receive training in ESL strategies and practices. Students are placed
in classes based on their language proficiency level. To obtain this level, a placement test
is administered at registration. Textbooks are used in all classes. The first part of the
lesson is offered on Monday and the second part is offered on Wednesday. Students may register
for individual classes or attend both classes during the week. Classes during the Fall and Winter
session are 12 weeks. Summer classes are usually 8 weeks.
Mondays and Wednesdays 7:00pm - 8:30pm
LaAmistad After School Area in the Family Commons Building
If you are interested in volunteering as a teacher, email us at
or signup online. After receiving your email inquiry,
you will receive an email with information about the program as well
as dates and times for informal interviews and training. All
volunteer teachers receive training in the use of ESL strategies,
textbook and lesson plans, and the operations manual. We also accept
volunteers to serve as teachers assistants. Training is provided
for these positions also. We welcome anyone interested in becoming
a part of LaAmistad English for Successful Living.
